South Railroad Our Community

Nuestra Comunidad

Orla maintains a positive relationship with our local communities by engaging regularly with stakeholders, volunteering, and sponsoring nonprofit organizations. Orla South Carlin Complex is committed to Nevada and Elko County and is looking forward to building Nevada’s next operating gold mine, creating new jobs and benefits for Elko and its surrounding communities.

Orla South Railroad partnered with CIS on their Food Hunger Program. Every other week, volunteers from the Orla South Railroad team pick up and deliver boxes of weekend meals to schools in Elko County. We delivered over 2,400 weekend meal packages to local students during the 2023-2024 school year. We plan to continue this partnership and look forward to helping make our communities healthier by working with Communities in Schools to ensure students don’t go hungry over the weekend.

Members of the South Railroad team also volunteer regularly to help with the FISH monthly drive-up food pantry. The organization reported that they received 36,000 requests for food in 2023. Orla South Railroad is proud to do its part to ensure members of the local communities aren’t hungry and is honored to partner with the local nonprofit organizations to help by donating time and resources.

We received over 30 applications, and eight finalists were selected by the South Railroad leadership team. The recipients spanned over 120 miles from West Wendover to Spring Creek, covering four different communities and high schools.

Members of the leadership team participated in the various award ceremonies, proudly handing out the scholarships to the chosen recipients. We respect all students in our local communities and are committed to supporting graduates through the Orla Mining South Railroad Scholarship Program into the future.

The Orla South Carlin Complex Community Relations Manager is the Chair of the WIM Education Committee. She led the Women in Mining educational volunteer event during the 2024 National Women in Mining conference in Elko. To celebrate her contributions to the Women in Mining, Nevada Chapter, she received a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition from Nevada Senator Jacky Rosen during the event.

Orla South Carlin Complex continues to work with WIM Nevada to help improve public understanding of the mining industry and promote diversity amongst its workforce.
